Scout Weekend at Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup
Who: All Registered Girl Scouts (Girls ages 12 and under in uniform will receive free entry)
When: 7 p.m., Feb. 24-25, 2017
Where: Sullivan Arena, 1600 Gambell St, Anchorage, AK 99501
Cost: Free entry for Girl Scouts 12 and under
Event Description: Attend the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup for free when you wear your Girl Scout uniform. Girl Scouts must be 12 and under to receive free entry. The first 250 Scouts each night will receive a free Seawolf Scout patch. View flyer here.

February 25, 2017
Fur Rondy Grand Parade, Anchorage
Grades: ALL
When: 9:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., February 25, 2017
Location: Downtown Anchorage
Cost: FREE
Event Description: Celebrate the start of Fur Rondy by marching in the parade. Wear your Girl Scout uniform to show your Girl Scout pride! The Grand Parade will be held Saturday, February 25 at 10:30 a.m. Please be in the staging area no later than 9:15 a.m. Entries that arrive after 9:45 a.m. will not be guaranteed a place in the parade lineup. Flags, costumes, uniforms, and banners available for check-out from the Council Office.

Girl Scouts Winter Fun Troop Overnight at Singing Hills
Grades: Registered Girl Scout Brownies to Ambassadors and 1-2 Troop Leaders per troop
When: Check In: February 25th at 10 AM; Check Out: February 26th at Noon
Location: Camp Singing Hills
Cost: $25.00 per girl and $15.00 per Troop Leader      
Event Description: Come have winter fun at Singing Hills! Activities include winter survival, snowmen building, snowshoeing, astronomy and more. Some activities will be led by Troop Leaders under the guidance of Girl Scout Staff. All supplies will be provided for Troop Leaders. Programs such as Winter Survival will be provided by the council. Kodiak Women of Science STEM Day
When: 10 AM – 4 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2017
Grades: All Girls
Event Description: Engage in fun, hands-on activities related to science, technology, engineering and math! ALL girls K-12 welcome! You do not have to be a Girl Scout to attend. Bring your friends! Girls will need a lunch, snack and water bottle. Please dress for the weather as some groups may go outside! 
Cost: $10/girl, (financial assistance available) Fun patch included.

IditaZoo

Event Description: Meet mushers and their sled dogs by joining the Alaska Zoo to celebrate dog mushing, the Alaska state sport!  You will learn all about the history of the Iditarod® including interesting facts about Iditarod checkpoints.  On Saturday, March 11th, join in the fun at the Alaska Zoo from Noon to 4pm for IditaZoo™!  You can “race” through zoo grounds while playing our checkpoint game, learn some cool facts about dog mushing, view Iditarod race standings, and get hands-on with equipment used for winter outdoor dog sports.  Kids will enjoy a craft station and a special sled dog Storytime program at 2 pm.  Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the Alaska state sport and see some of the animals Iditarod mushers may see along the trail!  View flyer here.

Explore the Alaska Aviation Museum

When: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017
Location: Alaska Aviation Museum, 4721 Aircraft Drive, Anchorage, AK 99502
Event description: Explore the museum and learn all about aviation in a guided program! Girl Scouts in grades K-3 will participate in Science of Flight as they experiment with different shapes to create a successful aircraft. Girl Scouts in grades 4-8 will participate in Artifact Lab as they explore historic aircraft, design your own amphibious aircraft, and learn about biomimicry. While one age group is participating in the guided program, the other will be exploring in the museum, then they will switch.
Cost: $8/girl, $5/adult (includes museum admission)
Min/Max: Min. 10 girls, Max. 35 girls per age group

Earth Hour 2017
Grades: All girls and families
When: 8-10 pm, Saturday, March 25, 2017
Where: Alaska Zoo, 4731 O’Malley Rd, Anchorage, AK 99507
Event Description: Bring a 100% beeswax or soy candle and join the Alaska Zoo as we turn out the lights for one hour in celebration of the global event, Earth Hour. Enjoy a presentation on Earth Hour, a candlelit walk through the zoo, and some animal enrichment with the zoo’s polar bears. This event is FREE to the public, all we ask is that you make a donation to help fund Arctic animal conservation education, and capital projects like the Polar Bear Project! Cake Bake
Grades: All Registered Girl Scouts, family, and friends

Event Description: Decorate a cake to auction off. The cake that makes the most money wins a prize! Come have fun doing some crafts related to cakes—cake walk, cake games, and cupcake decorating. During these fun activities, everyone can participate in a cake silent auction!
Cost: $2 per Girl Scout for supplies
Patches: Patches are $1.00 each. Patches are NOT included in the price of the event.

A Dance through the Decades

Where: St. Patrick’s Church, 2111 Muldoon Road, Anchorage, AK 99504
Event Description: The East Side Service Unit, along with the Alaska Christian Girl Scouts, do cordially invite all Girl Scouts to walk the red carpet for a night of fun, fashion, music and fabulous memories. This is a family event. Learn specifics about troops choosing a decade, having display tables, and bringing food items here.

Wasilla Alaska Club Valley Lock-In
Grades: 4-12
When: 10 p.m. Saturday, April 1 – 6 a.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017
Location: The Alaska Club, Wasilla
Event Description: Come and enjoy an overnight event at The Alaska Club in Wasilla. The pool and waterslide will be open from 11:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. The gym will be open for basketball and volleyball. Movies in the theater. Rock climbing. Pizza and drinks will be provided. 
Cost: $15 per Girl Scout, Adult Chaperones are free. At least 1 female adult must attend with their troop. More are welcome. Adults will be supervising in different areas, including the pool. Please dress accordingly. 
Patches: Patches are $1.00 each. Patches are NOT included in the price of the event. Please order the number of patches you would like.

Registration Deadline: Saturday, March 25, 2017 or when full. Event is limited to 100 Girl Scouts.
Note: Girls should bring: A snack to share, such as chips or cookies. Swim suit and plastic bag for wet suit (if you plan on getting into the pool). Sleeping bag if you want to take a nap. A personal water bottle/beverage, pillow, small water toys. Bicycle style helmet for rock wall. Wear comfortable clothes.

Mat-Su Women of Science & Techonology Day
Grades: All girls, regardless of Girl Scout membership
When: Saturday, April 8th, 2017
Girls in grades K – 3: Check in at 9:30; Workshops from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Girls in grades 4 – 12: Check in at 12:30 PM; Workshops from 1:00– 3:45 PM
Where: Mat-Su College (Check in at the Fred & Sara Machetanz Building)
Event Description: Join women professionals working in STEM careers for a day of workshops and fun. This event is open to ALL girls, regardless of Girl Scout membership. Each girl will have the chance to attend three different workshops on a STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) field. *Girls must attend with an adult troop leader or guardian.* View flyer here.

Event Description: Girl Scouts will dance the night away with their special guy at the My Guy and Me Dance. Guys should be a man of an older generation such as a father, uncle, brother, or the father of another Girl Scout. More information coming soon.

Open Gym Event
Grades: All Registered Girl Scouts
When: 7-10 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017
Location: Denali Gymnastics, 300 E Kalli Cir, Wasilla, AK 99654
Event Description: Come enjoy 3 hours of open gym time, including bars, beam, trampolines, and rings. Halfway through the night, we’ll have a light snack.
Cost: $20 per person

Digital Photography
Grades: Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts

Location: Camp Singing Hills, Chugiak AK
Event Description: The Alaska Society of Outdoor and Nature Photographers is partnering with Girl Scouts for a day of photography fun. Learn the science behind taking a great photo and how to edit them using photo editing software.  Bring a brown bag lunch for this event and a digital camera. Cameras may be shared between 2-3 girls. If you need help accessing a digital camera contact Kelly.
Cost: $15.00 per girl, patch included (no cost for adults), financial assistance is available.             
Patch: Junior girls will earn the Digital Photography Badge and Cadette girls will receive a photography fun patch.

Make Your Own Fairy Garden

Event Description: At “Make Your Own Fairy Garden,” girls will paint a fairy house and make a fairy garden. Other activities include face painting, making your own fairy, enjoying a fairy-delicious snack, and listening to an enchanted fairy story. Space is limited. This event is sponsored by Troop 65 and is a fundraiser for a troop trip to Japan. View flyer here

Encampment 2017
Encampment is a bi-yearly, three-day event where girls from across the council gather at the Palmer Fairgrounds to attend activities and workshops, enjoy meals and entertainment, and forge lasting friendships with other Girl Scouts.

Registration Information

Adult and non-member information:
Non-member girls can become members by completing a Membership Form and paying the $20 annual membership fee.
Troops/groups must always have appropriate adult-to-girl ratios per Volunteer Essentials, unless otherwise noted in the event description.
Individual girl members must attend with an adult, unless otherwise noted in the event description. 
Tagalongs (children of any age who are not participating in the program) are not allowed at events, unless otherwise noted in the event description.

Financial assistance for Council-run events only:
Financial assistance is available to girls wanting to attend Council-run event. A completed Financial Assistance Request Form needs to be attached to the Event Registration Form.

Cancellation policy for Council-run events only:
Cancellation requests are required in writing (e-mail preferred) to Kelly at kfitzgerald@girlscoutsalaska.org.
If a troop/group or individual cancels after the registration closing date, all money paid becomes nonrefundable unless we can fill the space(s) from the wait list. 
If we cancel an event, all money received will be refunded. 
Waitlisted individuals will be refunded after the event occurs.
