World Thinking Day Event – Anchorage
February 18 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Sand Lake / West and South Service Units are co-sponsoring a traditional “Taste of the World” Event to celebrate World Thinking Day 2017.
At this event, troops highlight a country by bringing a “taste” of its food, crafts, songs or games to share, and a poster showing other interesting facts about that country and its Girl Guides or Girl Scouts. Girls will sell their samples and explore tastes from other countries. Each taste will be sold for $0.25. Funds raised will support the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund, which supports international travel for Girl Scouts. By participating in this activity, girls will earn the official World Thinking Day 2017 patch.
It’s an event not to miss and you do not need to be representing a country to come! This event is for everyone. Contact Tracy Fischbach at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your space and country. To learn more about World Thinking Day check out the World Thinking Day website.
Note: For troops signed up or thinking about signing up and are new to this activity, please plan on bringing approximately 200 “tastes” from your country. If your “taste” is a food, it should be small, around 1-2 tablespoons. The Service Unit will have some small cups you can use. Please contact Linda Golding at email@example.com if you need some of these cups. Leaders have also used napkins or toothpicks for serving.
You can also do a miniature craft instead of a food item. The goal is to make a nice “store” for your country which both provides information and a “taste” of it through either food, craft, game, or song. Be creative! And, remember your quarters.
